Field AI is transforming how robots interact with the real world. We are building risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems that address the most complex challenges in robotics, unlocking the full potential of embodied intelligence. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-based architectures, and are charting a new course, with already-globally-deployed solutions delivering real-world results and rapidly improving models through real-field applications.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer, Infrastructure to design, build, and operate the core backend systems that power FieldAI’s globally deployed robotics platform. In this role, you’ll focus on high-performance backend services, real-time data pipelines, and system reliability, enabling seamless communication between robots, sensors, and customer-facing applications operating in complex, real-world environments.
This is a hands-on role for engineers who enjoy working close to the metal, solving hard distributed systems problems, and supporting software that runs in the field, not just the cloud.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and maintain backend services supporting real-time robotics systemsDevelop scalable APIs for internal and external consumersDesign and operate data stores for robotics telemetry, logs, and analyticsDefine clear schema contracts and build SDKs to simplify data access for internal and partner teamsSupport event-driven and message-based communication between robots, backend services, and UIsWork closely with robotics engineers to ensure backend systems meet operational, reliability, and performance requirementsImprove system observability, performance, and resilience in production environments
What You Bring to the Table
Typically 5–10+ years of experience building and operating backend or infrastructure systemsStrong backend programming experience with TypeScript (Node.js) and/or PythonSolid understanding of API and SDK design best practicesExperience designing and operating databases such as Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar systemsExperience building production systems with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelinesStrong system design skills, particularly for high-performance or real-time workloadsAbility to collaborate effectively across robotics, product, and frontend teams
What Will Set You Apart
Experience working with robotics frameworks such as ROSBackground supporting sensor data ingestion, telemetry pipelines, or hardware-adjacent systemsExperience with event-driven architectures and messaging systemsFamiliarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent)Experience supporting field-deployed or safety-critical systems
