Location: San Jose, CA OR Los Angeles office - 3 days per week on-site (hybrid)

What You'll Do

Lead a Highly Technical Team

You will manage a small team of strong engineers and tech leads working on the core FloQast platform. Your role is to enable technical excellence and remove friction, not simply coordinate delivery.

You will:

  • Mentor Staff Engineers, Tech Leads, and Senior Engineers

  • Unblock complex technical problems

  • Drive strong engineering decisions across the team

    • Build and Scale Backend Systems

    FloQast operates a large-scale SaaS platform used by thousands of companies and millions of financial workflows.

    You will help the team design and operate:

    • Distributed backend services

    • Scalable data pipelines

    • Highly reliable production systems

    • APIs and services powering accounting automation

      • Build AI-Powered Product Capabilities

      FloQast is moving aggressively toward AI-native product development.

      Your team will build:

      • AI-driven workflow automation

      • Intelligent agents operating across accounting processes

      • Systems that integrate LLM reasoning with financial data models

        • Drive AI-First Development

        AI coding tools are not optional here. We expect engineering leaders to actively use tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI systems to accelerate development and guide their teams in doing the same.

        You will help define how AI changes:

        • Software design

        • Code generation

        • Debugging

        • Testing

        • Refactoring

          • Raise the Technical Bar

          You will actively participate in:

          • Architecture reviews

          • System design discussions

          • Major code reviews

          • Technical mentorship

            • This is a technical leadership role, not a coordination role.

What You'll Bring:

You Have Built Real Systems

  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience

  • Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and data models

  • Comfortable debugging production systems

    • You Are Still Technical

    The best engineering managers we hire can still write code if needed and understand the systems their teams build. You should be comfortable:

    • Reviewing complex pull requests

    • Discussing architecture tradeoffs

    • Guiding engineers through difficult technical problems

      • You Understand AI-Assisted Development

      We expect engineering leaders to be AI-native builders. You should have experience using tools such as:

      • Claude

      • Cursor

      • Or similar AI coding environments to accelerate development.

        • Experience building the following is a strong plus:

        • AI agents

        • LLM-powered workflows

        • AI-assisted developer tooling

          • You Enable Strong Engineers

          Your success will be measured by how effective your engineers become. You should have experience:

          • Mentoring tech leads

          • Growing senior engineers

          • Removing technical blockers

          • Helping teams move faster without sacrificing quality
