Skyscanner • Glasgow, Edinburgh
About Skyscanner
Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges ✈️ That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 100 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole “47 browser tabs open” phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily 💻
Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all 🌍
Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? 💪 Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here).
About the role
(Hybrid)
This is a role for someone who likes their impact both behind the scenes and at the heart of everything. As Engineering Manager for our Identity & Security space, you’ll lead the team responsible for how Skyscanner’s people securely access the tools they need to build, collaborate and innovate.
You’ll balance technical leadership with people leadership — setting clear direction, removing obstacles, and creating an environment where engineers can do their best work. If the idea of shaping secure, scalable identity systems that quietly power a global travel platform excites you, you’re in the right place.
What you’ll be doing
-
Leading with purpose: You’ll build, mentor and support a high-performing engineering team, helping individuals grow while delivering as one.
-
Owning identity foundations: You’ll guide the evolution of our Identity & Access Management platforms, including directory services, SSO and identity lifecycle management.
-
Driving major initiatives: You’ll lead the delivery of large-scale programmes (like our Okta identity transformation) from idea to impact.
-
Simplifying the complex: You’ll champion pragmatic, elegant solutions in a domain that can easily become… not that.
-
Shaping secure delivery: You’ll help your team embed secure software engineering practices across the full product lifecycle.
-
Collaborating across Skyscanner: You’ll partner with teams across security, product and the wider business to influence how access works at scale.
-
Building for the future: You’ll define and deliver roadmaps in an evolving, ambiguous space — with clarity, calm and confidence.
About you
-
Experienced Engineering Manager: You’ve led engineering teams before and know how to balance people, delivery and technical direction.
-
IAM savvy: You bring a strong understanding of Identity & Access Management and awareness of emerging challenges around machine and agent identity.
-
Technically credible: You’re comfortable leading in technically sophisticated environments and earning trust through insight.
-
People-first leader: You care deeply about building inclusive, motivated teams that enjoy doing great work together.
-
Calm in complexity: You prefer simplicity, clarity and progress over unnecessary process or over-engineering.
-
Collaborative by default: You work well across disciplines and know how to influence without forcing the issue.
-
Mission-driven: You’re genuinely excited about helping Skyscanner become the world’s number one travel ally 🌍
