About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team within our Experiences business at Buyagift & Red Letter Days. Based in London with hybrid working (2 days in the office), this role blends people leadership with hands-on technical guidance, helping to build reliable, scalable products that deliver great customer experiences.
You’ll play a key role in shaping a high-performing, sustainable engineering culture where technical excellence and people development go hand in hand. Working in cross-functional teams, you’ll support engineers to grow, deliver impactful work, and continuously improve how we build and run our systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Foster a supportive, inclusive team environment where engineers feel empowered to do their best work
Contribute to engineering culture and management practices, helping make the business a great place to work
Lead a team responsible for multiple services, following a “you build it, you run it” approach
Influence and improve engineering standards, ensuring high-quality, maintainable software
Lead by example through hands-on technical involvement, including pairing and technical guidance
Ensure systems are designed and built with strong engineering principles and long-term reliability in mind
Support the delivery of new features while maintaining system performance and stability
Spend significant time on coaching, mentoring, and one-to-one development conversations
Identify skills gaps and support team growth through coaching or hiring
Encourage a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement
About You:
Proven experience with CI/CD, owning code from build through deployment to production support and monitoring
Strong interest in building robust, high-performing cloud or serverless applications
Comfortable working in full-stack, cross-functional teams with a collaborative mindset
Ability to challenge ideas constructively and foster a culture of experimentation and learning
Good understanding of web application and cloud security, with the ability to work closely with security teams
Experience supporting and developing engineers, with a focus on growth and progression
Passion for delivering high-quality user experiences that support business goals
Our Tech Environment:
Backend: C#, .NET, Node.js/TypeScript
Frontend: React
Infrastructure: Azure (Serverless, Windows/IIS, Microsoft stack), managed with Terraform
Tooling: Azure DevOps (primary), some GitHub usage
Systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365
