At TomTom, the Maps team sits at the heart of our vision to build the world’s most accurate, fresh, and intelligent map. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help evolve the Orbis Road Model Map  as well as the newly-announced Orbis Lane Model Map by transforming high‑fidelity, high‑volume data into map content that powers next‑generation navigation, automated driving, and high‑quality Guidance for millions of drivers.

You will turn diverse data sources into a unified, highly accurate representation of the world’s road and lane networks—fueling products and partnerships that rely on TomTom’s map as a competitive differentiator, from global OEMs to cutting‑edge automated driving programs.

What You'll Do

• Work with a team of engineers to develop high-quality software, acting as a mentor and role model for more junior engineers to help them grow
 
• Drive the technical decisions to improve engineering, test, and operational excellence best practices
 
• Participate to all phases of the project lifecycle – gathering requirements, designing solutions, building new interfaces, integration with existing architectures, development, and testing code
 
• Build scalable, highly available and resilient applications by utilizing the optimal cloud technologies and programming languages and frameworks that best suit your use cases
 
• Enable your team for success through interactions with your partner teams
 
• Take ownership of responsibilities and lead changes within the team. Lead and own small initiatives outside of your team
 
• Support hiring for team vacancies, and investments into team and product health 

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or 5+ years of equivalent experience in at least one modern programming language • Proven ability to learn new languages and technologies, and lead others in acquiring new skills

• Comfortable with written and/or verbal communication in English

• Strong Computer Science and development fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.

• Strong knowledge and practice of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

• Experience writing system designs at the component level and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs

• Experience working with data processing tools/frameworks and cloud technologies
