Job Responsibilities:
Accountable for the design, development and architecture of new and current systemsParticipates in enterprise architecture reviews and provides recommendations and guidance to align the POS systems to optimize Petco IT investmentsAct as technical lead for medium to large complex project/feature enhancementWork with the Product Management team, Project Management, Business and User Experience teams to identify and prioritize initiatives and featuresParticipate in all grooming and priority setting sessions and accountable for project sizing and estimationEvaluates new tools, technologies and processes to improve speed, efficiency and scalabilityWill be responsible for monitoring server and application performance using one or more of Application Performance Monitoring tools: NewRelic, CloudWatch and SumologicWork closely with other development teams across Petco to troubleshoot issues, performance tuning and identify opportunities for seamless integrations across systemsWorks closely with the Production Support team to train, guide and troubleshoot production issuesProvides coaching and technical guidance for Software Engineers at different levels of experienceThrives on working in a fast-paced environment
Basic Qualifications:
8+ years of professional experience in software support at enterprise level1 – 3 years of technical leadership experienceBS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related IT fieldExtensive hands-on enterprise JAVA application and Spring boot development experienceIn-depth knowledge of retail POS processes, including customer facing (Sales & Returns management, promotion & pricing, membership, loyalty, payment integration etc…) and back-office (Cash Management, Opening & Closing, TLOG processing)Extensive experience with PCI & PII security standardsExtensive knowledge of best practices and IT design and development patterns and standardsExtensive hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in betweenExtensive experience troubleshooting issues across a complex IT ecosystem across multiple cross-functional teamsExperience with Capacitor or similar technologies to build cross-platform native appsExperience working with Cloud technology and IaC (AWS experience preferred, and candidates with AWS DevOps or AWS Solution Architecture certifications strongly preferred)Experience with Microservice Architecture and Domain Driven Design. Extensive experience with Java build, packaging and dependency management and storage systems (such as GitLab, Maven, Gradle, Artifactory)Experience developing and tuning MS SQL, AWS Aurora PostgreSQL queriesExperience with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (such as Cucumber, Robot, Selenium, JMeter)Extensive experience with creating alerts, dashboards, canned queries – as well as configuring and integrating log aggregation (such as SumoLogic, Splunk, ELK, syslog – SumoLogic preferred)Experience with Agile methodologies (Kanban or Scrum) and software development lifecyclesExcellent interpersonal & communication skills
