As our (Senior) Backend Engineer (d/f/m) - Checkout & Payments, you will
Design, develop, and maintain robust backend APIs and services focused on payment processing, billing, and end-to-end checkout experiencesIntegrate and manage third-party payment providers and gateways, ensuring seamless, reliable, and secure transaction flowsOptimize payment infrastructure for high performance, scalability, and security while handling large volumes of concurrent transactionsCollaborate cross-functionally with frontend, product, and customer support teams to continuously improve the user experience and resolve payment-related issuesPlay a key role in building our own managed payments platform, creating deeply integrated, automated, and scalable payment solutions for our customers
What you will need to succeed in this role:
Strong expertise in backend development, particularly in payment processing, billing systems, or checkout flowsProficiency in at least one backend language (JavaScript or TypeScript, Java, Golang, or Kotlin)5+ years of experience in backend engineering, ideally with hands-on involvement in payment and billing integrationsExperience in working with payment gateway APIs (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree), checkout systems, or subscription billing platformsA solid understanding of NoSQL databases, caching mechanisms, and message queuesKnowledge of data security and compliance standards, including PCI-DSS and best practices for handling sensitive payment dataBeing comfortable in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP) and familiar with Docker and KubernetesThe ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and approach problems with ownership and attention to detail
