About the Role:
We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team building Quizlet’s Ads platform team, a core part of how we sustainably support millions of learners worldwide. This team owns the end-to-end ads stack, including programmatic and direct ads, video ads, SDK and exchange integrations, and partnerships with ad quality and measurement vendors,, across web, iOS, and Android.
In this role, you’ll lead and grow a high-performing group of engineers while partnering closely with Product, Data, Design, Revenue, and external partners to shape the ads roadmap and execution. You’ll drive engineering excellence in systems that must balance scale, performance, reliability, user experience, and monetization impact. As a senior leader, you’ll stay technically engaged, influencing architecture, guiding complex integrations, and leading initiatives that improve platform robustness and developer velocity.
This role requires comfort operating across multiple platforms and domains, navigating tradeoffs between product experience and revenue goals, and building systems that perform at global scale.

To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. In this role, you will:
Lead and directly manage a team of top-notch software engineers responsible for building and operating publisher advertising systems, including ad delivery, targeting, measurement, and platform capabilities across web and mobilePartner closely with Product, Data, Revenue, Design, and Ads business teams to define strategy, roadmap, and success metrics for ads and monetization initiativesOwn execution and delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams, balancing revenue impact, user experience, platform reliability, and regulatory requirementsDrive architectural decisions for high-scale, low-latency systems, including third-party integrations, experimentation frameworks, and platform abstractionsChampion engineering excellence in areas such as system reliability, performance optimization, observability, and safe rollout practicesFoster an inclusive, feedback-driven team culture that prioritizes psychological safety, technical growth, and career developmentNavigate ambiguity and cross-functional complexity, proactively unblocking dependencies across product lines, platforms, and external partners
What you bring to the table:
10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years leading engineering teams, ideally in a consumer-facing or platform-oriented environmentProven experience delivering business-critical systems that balance monetization goals, user engagement, and long-term technical sustainabilityStrong technical foundation in backend, full-stack, or mobile engineering, with the ability to engage deeply in system design and architectural tradeoffsDemonstrated hands-on experience in TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin/Java, with a strong understanding of production-level mobile or web codebases and the ability to stay technically engaged with the teamHands-on experience designing and operating highly scalable, distributed systems that integrate with third-party services or SDKsClear, effective communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiencesDemonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build teams that consistently grow in impact and ownershipDeep understanding of agile execution, prioritization, and cross-functional collaborationStrong track record of stakeholder management, aligning engineering delivery with product, revenue, and business priorities
