We’re in an unbelievably exciting area of tech and are fundamentally reshaping the data storage industry. Here, you lead with innovative thinking, grow along with us, and join the smartest team in the industry.
This type of work—work that changes the world—is what the tech industry was founded on. So, if you're ready to seize the endless opportunities and leave your mark, come join us.
THE ROLE
The Hyperscale Line of Business builds and ships products to hyperscale customers at exabyte scale, with an emphasis on speed, reliability, and operational excellence. The Build Tools and Environments team owns developer productivity infrastructure related to build orchestration, build systems, and containerized build environments that every Hyperscale engineer relies on daily to build and test software.
We're looking for an engineering manager to lead this team: to build a healthy, high-performing group while partnering closely with engineers, tech leads, and adjacent platform teams. The right person brings strong technical judgment, a real appreciation for build correctness and developer ergonomics, and a drive to make complex workflows faster, more reliable, and easier to operate at scale.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for build tools and environments
- Set direction and execution plans across build orchestration, build-system evolution, containerized environments, and developer-workflow improvements — partnering with tech leads and engineers to own the roadmap
- Drive improvements in build speed, reliability, reproducibility, debuggability, and ease of use across local development and CI workflows
- Establish operational excellence for build infrastructure, including quality standards, observability, incident response, change management, and continuous improvement
- Partner with teams across the Hyperscale Line of Business and broader engineering to understand pain points, remove bottlenecks, and align tooling investments with product delivery needs
- Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, career growth planning, stretch opportunities, and strong engineering management practices
- Help the team make sound technical and organizational tradeoffs, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term maintainability and platform health
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and closing candidates to continue building a strong team
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, high standards, and customer-focused execution
- We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara office in compliance with Everpure's policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience in infrastructure, developer productivity, build systems, or platform engineering
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams with 6+ members and a strong track record as a people leader
- Experience managing teams that own engineering infrastructure or internal developer platforms used by multiple product teams
- Strong understanding of modern build systems and toolchains — dependency management, build-graph correctness, incremental and reproducible builds, artifact generation, and build isolation
- Experience with build systems and toolchains such as Make, CMake, and custom or in-house build orchestration tools, plus CI pipelines and containerized (Docker) build environments — experience owning a proprietary or bespoke build tool is a strong plus
- Hands-on familiarity with Linux-based development environments, Docker, and the operational concerns of maintaining consistent build images and execution environments
- Ability to engage credibly in deep technical discussions with senior engineers and help guide architecture, priorities, and execution without becoming a bottleneck
- Experience using engineering metrics for build performance, reliability, and developer experience
- [Preferred] Experience with large-scale C/C++ builds, including dependency pruning, static/dynamic linking tradeoffs, and reproducible containerized builds
- [Preferred] Experience modernizing legacy build systems or migrating workflows across build technologies
- [Preferred] Experience improving developer productivity for complex monorepo or multi-repository environments
- [Preferred] Background in storage, systems software, distributed systems, or other infrastructure-heavy engineering environments
- [Preferred] Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred
