About the role

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the senior engineering leadership team to help build a quality engineering organisation 
  • Assist squad leaders to maintain their backlog providing assistance with architecture and stakeholder management.
  • Collaborate with engineering practice leads to improve core engineering practices across backend, front end, infrastructure and quality practices
  • Help to monitor squads delivery cadence and work with a team on improving on their efficiency
  • Promote sound, modern engineering practices and tools within the squads (TDD, pair programming, efficient branching strategies, etc)
  • Teach and mentor your squads on making sound technology choices, software design practices and the ways of working 
  • Mentor and grow Engineers under your care
  • Collaborate on and recommend sound DevOps practices in the teams
  • Manage direct reports - Engineering Team Leads in each of your squads
  • Skills and Experience

  • Strong technical background in general engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering large engineering initiatives across multiple teams
  • Strong technical underpinnings - either through a bachelor of computer science degree or demonstrated self learning
  • Previous team lead experience as well as leading leaders
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks and the testing pyramid
  • Good understanding of modern CD and software operations practices such as trunk-based development, 12 factor application principles in practice, Docker, utilisation of monitoring tools like Datadog, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset
  • Have a ‘leave it better than you found it’ attitude towards code
  • Nice to Have

  • Angular experience
  • Ruby on Rails experience
  • Knowledge of AWS 
  • Kubernetes deployment experience
  • People management experience
