The Opportunity

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineering Manager to lead, scale, and modernize our data engineering function. This is a highly technical player–coach role. You will manage 2 full-time data engineers and 2 part-time supporting resources, set technical direction, enforce engineering standards, and ensure the reliability and evolution of Akido’s modern data platform.

This role is critical to supporting ongoing acquisitions. You will design and evolve a data platform capable of rapidly ingesting, normalizing, migrating, and integrating newly acquired healthcare data assets into Akido’s infrastructure and tech stack.

There is strong potential for growth into a Director-level role as the organization scales.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and grow a high-performing data engineering team
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current data platform and lead re-architecture where necessary
  • Own platform reliability, observability, and data quality standards
  • Design scalable ingestion and schema normalization frameworks to support rapid acquisition integration
  • Lead migration of acquired company data pipelines onto Akido’s infrastructure (Snowflake, Airflow, DBT, AWS)
  • Establish reusable ingestion templates and migration playbooks for external healthcare data sources
  • Promote reusable DBT models, strong layering practices, and self-serve analytics (Sigma)
  • Establish and enforce AI-assisted development as a team-wide engineering standard
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, analytics, and leadership
  • Participate in architectural reviews and code reviews to maintain a high technical bar

AI-Forward Engineering Expectations

AI-assisted development is a core expectation. The Senior Data Engineering Manager is expected to:

  • Use AI coding agents (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) daily
  • Enforce AI-assisted workflows across DBT modeling, SQL generation, testing, documentation, and refactoring
  • Establish quality guardrails for AI-generated code
  • Incorporate AI usage into hiring and performance expectations
  • Continuously evolve AI workflows to improve velocity without sacrificing correctness or compliance

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of software or data engineering experience
  • 3+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • Deep experience with modern data stacks (Snowflake, Airflow, DBT, AWS)
  • Experience designing scalable ingestion architectures and schema normalization strategies
  • Experience migrating legacy or acquired data pipelines to modern infrastructure
  • Strong architectural judgment and production ownership experience
  • Proven ability to mentor senior engineers and raise technical standards
  • Experience in regulated healthcare or compliance-driven environments is a strong plus
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills
