Staff Software Development Engineer in Test, Foundation Services
Netskope • Taipei, TaiwanAbout Netskope
Today, there's more data and users outside the enterprise than inside, causing the network perimeter as we know it to dissolve. We realized a new perimeter was needed, one that is built in the cloud and follows and protects data wherever it goes, so we started Netskope to redefine Cloud, Network and Data Security.
Since 2012, we have built the market-leading cloud security company and an award-winning culture powered by hundreds of employees spread across offices in Santa Clara, St. Louis, Bangalore, London, Paris, Melbourne, Taipei, and Tokyo. Our core values are openness, honesty, and transparency, and we purposely developed our open desk layouts and large meeting spaces to support and promote partnerships, collaboration, and teamwork. From catered lunches and office celebrations to employee recognition events and social professional groups such as the Awesome Women of Netskope (AWON), we strive to keep work fun, supportive and interactive. About the role
The Foundation Engineering team is architecting the nervous system of the Netskope Cloud—a service responsible for synchronizing critical configuration state across 100+ globally distributed data centers. We are seeking a Staff SDET to drive the quality strategy for this massive-scale distributed system.
What’s in it for you
In this role, you will move beyond traditional functional testing to design comprehensive verification frameworks that simulate real-world WAN characteristics. You will be responsible for architecting test harnesses that validate data consistency, measure replication latency, and inject failure scenarios (network partitions, packet loss) to ensure our file synchronization engine is resilient and fault-tolerant at a global scale.
What you will be doing
- Test Architecture: Design and build a scalable test automation framework from the ground up capable of spinning up ephemeral clusters to simulate multi-region deployments.
- Chaos Engineering: Introduce fault injection strategies to verify how the file sync service handles network partitions, node crashes, and slow disks.
- Performance & Scale: Create benchmarks to measure sync latency and throughput across 100+ simulated nodes, ensuring we meet strict SLOs before production rollout.
- Tooling & Developer Productivity: Build internal tools that allow developers to easily reproduce complex production bugs related to file consistency in a local environment.
- Quality Leadership: Define the "Definition of Done" for distributed consistency and act as a mentor to other QA engineers, driving best practices in code quality and CI/CD integration.
Required skills and experience
- Engineering Depth: 8+ years of experience in Test Engineering or Software Development, with strong coding proficiency in Python, Go, or Java.
- Distributed Systems Testing: Proven experience testing complex distributed systems (e.g., verifying eventual consistency, leader election, or consensus protocols).
- Infrastructure as Code: Deep familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform to orchestrate complex test environments on demand.
- System Internals: Understanding of Linux file systems, networking (TCP/IP, HTTP/2, gRPC), and cloud infrastructure.
Education
- BSCS or equivalent required, MSCS or equivalent strongly preferred
