As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Governance & Foundations team, you will lead the design and delivery of large-scale data infrastructure that supports governance, access, and compute across the platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Data Science, ML, Finance, Product, and Security to ensure reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency over the next several years. This role offers the opportunity to shape the backbone of a modern data lakehouse, influence architectural decisions, and drive platform-wide standards while executing high-impact projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will tackle complex engineering challenges involving distributed systems, real-time pipelines, and AI-powered data tooling, ensuring the platform remains robust and adaptable as it grows.

Accountabilities:

  • Own the architecture and implementation of open lakehouse foundations, governance frameworks, and multi-engine compute strategies
  • Define and maintain unified table formats, storage governance, and multi-engine compute portfolios for batch, interactive, and streaming workloads
  • Drive real-time and streaming infrastructure with a focus on performance, availability, and cost efficiency
  • Apply AI-native engineering practices to accelerate development, automation, observability, and platform optimization
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and stakeholders across multiple functions to align on platform strategy and roadmap
  • Mentor senior engineers, lead architecture reviews, and influence hiring and technical decisions
  • Balance immediate operational needs with long-term architectural improvements
  • Requirements:

    • 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production-scale data infrastructure or distributed systems
    • Hands-on expertise with modern data lakehouse architectures and open table formats (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hudi)
    • Experience with distributed compute/query engines (e.g., Trino, Spark, ClickHouse) including performance tuning and reliability
    • Strong background in event-driven and streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, Flink) for real-time pipelines
    • Proven track record of leading platform transitions, migrations, or major infrastructure initiatives
    • Ability to create cost/benefit and TCO models and communicate architecture strategies across multiple teams and leadership levels
    • Preferred: experience with platform governance, compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, GDPR, CPRA), orchestration tools (Airflow), data transformation pipelines (dbt), and strong SQL and Python/Scala skills
    • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive base salary depending on location (ranges $221,000–$279,500 USD) with eligibility for equity grants
      • Remote-eligible role with flexibility to work from home, office, or other preferred locations
      • Comprehensive health, wellness, and retirement benefits
      • Paid time off, parental leave, and support for work-life balance
      • Professional development, mentorship, and career growth opportunities
      • Inclusive, diverse, and collaborative company culture
